Jubilee Wanted to Hijack NASA, and 4 Other Hidden Details Emerge

The National Super Alliance (NASA) remains to be an intriguing political vehicle first introduced by Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Emerging details now indicate that Jubilee wanted to hijack the name NASA, forcing Mr Mudavadi to quickly reserve it.

In a publication by the Standard, Mudavadi is said to have disclosed to the CORD Principals - Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Moses Wetangula – during a meeting at Cold Springs in Karen, how he went about reserving the name NASA before Jubilee could use it.

According to reports, the three CORD co-principals were very wary of the name NASA with some expressing fear that Mudavadi could have an upper hand since it was his outfit.

"The Principals wanted first to look at the modalities under which they will have a stake in NASA lest it be taken away once they have folded CORD. They had to be assured first," a source privy to the high profile meeting divulged.

The trio finally agreed to use NASA when they deduced that using any other name would simply confuse their supporters.

It was then they decided to announce their commitment to NASA and the road map for the Alliance.

Reports further indicate that later on there was also a meeting at Siaya Senator James Orengo's Lonrho House, where the team agreed on the position all the four would occupy when NASA's presidential candidate wins in the August 8 Election.

As per the Terms of Reference (TOR) the four signed, the two who will not run for the top job will be given befitting slots in the NASA Government.

At the same time, the Opposition has insisted that their Presidential candidate will continue being a secret until the appropriate time for announcing.

"Our strategy is not to give our rivals the opportunity to incite and catalyst, the presidential candidate will be known at the right time. We want to be as discreet as possible," a confidant of the NASA alliance noted.

On Tuesday, January 31 the Opposition unveiled a 12-member National Coordinating Committee (NCC) led by Orengo that will oversee activities of NASA, including choosing the coalition's flag bearer and running mate for the August 8 elections.

The team has three representatives from each of the four parties making the coalition - ODM, Wiper Party, FORD-Kenya and ANC.
