Chaos erupted in Kabete after a vehicle belonging to parliamentary aspirant Charles Chege Gitau popularly known as 'Chege Fresh' was found riddled with bullets on the back door and rear windscreen.
The aspirant's supporters lit bonfires and barricaded parts of Gitaru-Wangige road protesting his disappearance.
They extended the demonstrations to other areas including Uthiru, Wangige, Kanjeru and Ndumboini prompting the deployment of anti-riot police officers to calm the situation.
According to area officers, Chege might have gone missing at around midnight after dropping off his driver.
The officers confirmed that all his personal belongings including his mobile phone were found intact in the Toyota Prado.
Kabete OCPD Joseph Ongaya divulged that one area resident reported sounds of gunshots and on responding, the officers found the abandoned vehicle near Gitaru dam.
“When our officers arrived, they told us it was Chege’s vehicle and that no one was around. They said there were no blood stains," he stated.
He affirmed that investigations had been launched adding that the aspirant's driver was helping in the probe as the Prado was towed to King'eero Police Station.
Chege was expected to launch his manifesto on Saturday at Kanjeru Stadium.
