Kaimenyi Reveals Persons Arrested For Exam Leakage

Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi, in a meeting with the Education Committee, revealed that persons behind exam leakages among them police officers had been arrested.

Kaimenyi said that so far two police officers, 79 students and 13 teachers had been nabbed and were awaiting to be arraigned in court for the criminal offense.

The Education CS told the committee that he was unsure whether police were involved in the exam malpractices adding that the extent of cheating in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations would be known once marking was done.

On Monday, Education Committee Chair Sabina Chege  blamed the police tasked with guarding the examination materials for leaking the content of question papers.

She highlighted that officers opened the papers at police stations, photographed them then circulated to candidates on WhatApp at a fee.

In a quick response the National Police Service, dismissed the allegations arguing that they were baseless since its officers were only involved in storing the papers, which they delivered to various schools while securely sealed.

The Committee investing the matter directed the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to submit a full report within two days on examination leakages.

Last Week, KNEC stated that the questions on nabbed papers were not genuine, but confirmed that five teachers and several university students had been arrested for propagating examination malpractices.

The Council's boss, Joseph Kivilu, has been under pressure to suspend the examinations, a suggestion he firmly declined stating that they would go on as scheduled.
