KANU Advertises Presidential Candidate in 2017 Election

The Kenya African National Union (KANU) party is looking for a presidential candidate to field in the August 8 General Election.

In an advert in one of the local dailies, the party called on Kenyans who share the same values as KANU to express their interest in the six elective positions which include: the President, Governor, Member of the Senate, County Women Representative, Member of National Assembly and Member of County Assembly.

"We invite Eligible Kenyans who subscribe to the Ideas, Vision, Mission, Objectives and Core Values of the party to present their expression of interests in confidence to KANU National Election Board.

"As enshrined in the party constitution women, youth and persons with disabilities are highly encouraged to join the party and vie, in line with affirmative action. Applications must be returned to KANU Headquarters together with applicable nomination fees NOT LATER THAN 21st Feb 2017 at 5.00PM," the publication read in part.

This comes at a time when KANU chairman, Gideon Moi, has already been tasked to assess which political vehicle between President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party and Raila Odinga's NASA, KANU would affiliate to in the much-awaited election.

The publication captured the attention of a section of the public owing to the fact that the cockerel party had not earlier expressed interest in the country's top seat.

The party's Secretary General Nick Salat sparked mixed reactions during the Opposition's January meeting at Bomas of Kenya where he affirmed that KANU was together with NASA.

His remarks caused a storm in the party with members dissociating themselves from his stand.
