KANU Calls for Meeting to Discuss Mr Salat's Announcement that the Party has Joined NASA

The KANU Party, led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, has convened an urgent meeting this week to discuss its involvement in the recently launched National Super Alliance (NASA).

The decision to hold the meeting was compelled by the Secretary-General Nick Salat's announcement that the party had joined NASA, claims leaders from KANU have vehemently denied.

Speaking during a public forum, Salat divulged that the party would meet this week to discuss the NASA issue.

“The party has planned a meeting this week to be presided over by our chairman, where I will give a brief over Nasa,” Mr Salat stated.

Mr Salat has come under heavy criticism with KANU's National Executive Council member Zipporah Kittony terming his declaration that the party had joined NASA as personal.

“Since the party has not convened the National Delegates Conference (NDC) as per the constitution to deliberate on this particular matter, the remarks by the Secretary-General are therefore not official as they have not been subjected to the internal constitutional processes for ratification,” Mrs Kittony affirmed.

Meanwhile, a section of leaders from KANU has given Salat seven days to address the matter failure to which they would mobilise other officials in the party to dethrone him as Secretary General.

Despite criticism from KANU leaders, Mr Salat has remained defiant on the matter stating: “As the secretary-general, it is my duty to shop around for ideas and seek unity with like-minded individuals to ensure the party’s growth.”
