Former ruling party KANU has released figures from the recently concluded senatorial by-election in Kericho County, showing their candidate won the election by over 100,000 votes.
According to the party, their candidate Paul Sang had garnered 126,000 votes as compared to Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) candidate Aaron Cheruiyot who got 33,000 votes as revealed by their independent tallying source.
Cheruiyot was declared the winner in the March 7 polls by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after getting 109,358 votes against his closest rival Sang's 56,397 votes.

KANU, which had refused to accept the outcome, accused the IEBC and Jubilee of collectively rigging the election in favour of Cheruiyot.
“Our parallel data indicate that our candidate Paul Sang won by 126,000 votes against JAP Cheruiyot's 33,000 votes but we are not going to court because we don't have faith in the Judiciary,” KANU Secretary General Nick Salat revealed as quoted by The Star.
The KANU leadership commented that the rigging was done to save Deputy President William Ruto's face, adding that every vote for JAP was multiplied by 1.5 to gain undue advantage.
The leaders thanked Kericho residents for their support while warning Jubilee to prepare for a bigger contest come 2017 elections.
