KANU Secretary-General Nick Salat Warns Uhuru Against Signing Electoral Laws

The KANU party, which is led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, has threatened to join the CORD coalition in demonstrations should President Uhuru Kenyatta assent to the contentious electoral amendments approved by Parliament on Thursday.

In a message directed to Kenyatta, KANU Secretary-General Nick Salat warned the Head of State against approving the changes to the electoral laws, arguing that the amendments do not represent the views of Kenyans.

Salat further noted that the amendments were geared towards satisfying the selfish, individual interests of those in power.

The KANU Secretary General accused the Jubilee Administration of planning to rig the upcoming General Elections.

“The rigging process has started very early. We cannot sit, wait and watch. We want Kenyans to exercise their right and elect the people who can serve them,” he said on Friday.

Jubilee MPs opened a new battlefront with their CORD counterparts after using their numerical strength to approve the changes allowing IEBC to have a manual back-up in voting, transmission and tallying of election results.

Consequently, the Opposition vowed to stage mass demonstrations on January 4, 2017, to protest the amendments which they claim provide a loophole for Jubilee to rig the elections.

ODM leader Raila Odinga stated that it was time to liberate the country from the Jubilee regime maintaining that the passed regulations were aimed at rigging the upcoming polls.
