KCSE Candidates Injured in Likoni Ferry

Scramble for the only operational ferry in Likoni, Mombasa County has caused injuries to 11 people.

Residents of the area were on Monday stranded after two of the ferries plying the Likoni strip were grounded leading to a stampede when one was made available.

Among those injured in the stampede included school going children who were candidates in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

Speaking in regard to the crisis, Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa, blamed the dysfunctional ferries on poor management and corruption at the Kenya Ferry Service and further called for the sacking of its Managing Director.

“It is not that we do not have ferries they are there infact four are available. Why should there be a stampede? The big issue is with the management, if you want sanity at the ferries the MD must go,” said Marwa.

He also asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to carry out investigations into the Ferry Service saying a lot of money was being swindled.
