KDF Kills 15 Al-Shabaab Terrorists in West of Catamaa

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers have killed 15 Al-Shabaab terrorists in the ongoing operation by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the military Spokesman, Col. Joseph Owuoth indicated that the terrorists were killed today early morning at a camp four kilometres west of Catamaa, following a well-organised attack on the militants base by the Kenyan forces.

"KDF Amisom detachment from a nearby location engaged the terrorists using artillery and mortar fire and successfully destroyed the terrorists’ camp," read a part of the presser.

The KDF spokesman further assured Kenyans that the ongoing operation against Al-Shabaab would continue “until all the terrorists are eliminated to ensure that locals continue to enjoy peace and security”.

This attack comes in the wake of another assault that was conducted by the KDF soldiers on Saturday killing a senior Al Shabaab commander after a failed attack on an army base.

The Ministry of Defence identified the commander as Bashe Nure Hassan and he was killed after the militants attempted to overrun a Somalia National Army camp in Kuday.

The Kenyan troops responded hastily and supported their Somalia counterparts using mortars and machine gun fire to repulse the terrorists.

In the ensuing fire exchange, two militants including Hassan were neutralised while many others are believed to have sustained injuries.
