Kenyan Gay Author Pleads for Help

Kenyan Author Binyavanga Wainaina who is well known for his outright declaration that he is gay, an announcement he made in 2014, is in need of help.

Mr Wainaina suffered a stroke on October 13 while at his home in Karen area. He was then admitted in intensive Care Unit at the Karen Hospital before being discharged on November 6.

He, however, began experiencing difficulties a few days later owing to the stroke, prompting more medical examinations.

Doctors discovered that he was suffering from a chronic condition which affected his brain's blood vessels leading to strokes.

The author of One day I will Write About This Place, now needs about Sh7.5 Million to cater for his travel and medical expenses in India.

An account has been set up by Kwani Trust to help raise funds for Mr Wainaina.

The news of his sexual orientation surprised the world, given that most African countries including Kenya are yet to legalise homosexuality. Binyavanga was hosted by many local and international TV channels and even featured on BBC's Hard Talk Show.
