Kenyan Man Pleads Guilty to Supporting 3 Terrorist Groups including Al Shabaab

A Kenyan man arraigned in a US court has pleaded guilty to funding three terrorists groups and recruiting on their behalf.

27 year old Mohamed Hussein Said admitted to having worked in the named capacities for Al Qaeda, Al Nusra Front and Al Shabaab.

According to Mirror, the suspect who hails from Nairobi was arrested in Saudi Arabia last year and taken to Miami by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents (FBI) agents.

He was arrested alongside another suspect-  Gufran Ahmed Mohammed.

Fell into FBI trap

A statement by the US Justice Department shows that Mr Mohammed wired more than $11,600 (Sh1.1 million) to Mr Said to support Al-Shabaab.

Said is accused of having served as a contact and recruiter of foreign fighters from the United Kingdom and other places traveling to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab.

The two men were also conspiring to send recruits to the Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra Front to fight in Syria.

The Nation reports that they fell into a trap set by the FBI, which led to their arrest.

FBI agents disguised as recruiters and fundraisers for terrorist groups got Said and Mohammed chatting online and with time, they were able to gather information against them as well as evidence that they were operating on behalf of the terrorist groups.

Said had allegedly sought funds from the undercover FBI agent to pay the rent for fighters who were in Kenya under the command of Abu Zubeir, an Al-Shabaab leader.

The two have been charged on 15 different terror related accounts.

Said's sentencing is scheduled for the 14th of August 2015.
