The British national accused of killing a Kenyan woman at his Karen home has revealed interesting details of what allegedly transpired before the incident.
Richard Alden's lawyer, Evans Monari, told the court on Monday that his client was innocent as the deceased Grace Wangeci Kinyanjui accidentally took her own life.
Monari reportedly mentioned outside the court that Wangeci was taking selfies with the pistol when it went off. He added that photographs could be retrieved from the mobile phone.
“She was taking selfies and the gun went off. The girl shot herself by accident. Those other injuries don’t exist. The injury in the back is an exit, not an entry.” UK's Telegraph quotes Monari.
“The maid was somewhere in the compound and she heard a shot. She didn’t hear any commotion. They were talking and laughing,” he added.
The Briton's lawyer told the judge that there was no evidence linking his client to the crime, highlighting that Alden was greatly aggrieved by the loss of his alleged girlfriend.
Alden, who is a former Wananchi Group CEO, was apprehended at the Karen Hospital where he had taken the deceased after the shooting.
According to Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome, crime officers recovered spent cartridges and blood stained towels when they visited the scene of crime.
The suspect, a former senior manager at Deloitte in London, was remanded for five days as police continue with investigations.
