Kenyans React on Nation Media Journalist Suspension

The suspension of Special Projects Editor at Nation Media Group, Denis Galava, who published an editorial disparaging President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee Government stirred storm among Kenyans on social media.

Many including those in the media and political fratenity condemned the sacking of Galava, stating that the company's action proved it was not an independent media, alluding that the Editor's suspension was ordered from State House.

However, in a statement Nation Media Group through the Editor-in-Chief Tom Mshindi said: “We have asked Denis Galava, the Managing Editor for Special Projects, to take some time off to allow us time to review the circumstances of the writing and filing of the editorial for Saturday Nation, January 2, 2016.”

"The lack of consultation and review of the editorial on the material day, where one writer takes a strong position on such an important issue single-handedly without broad discussion and consultation, is a significant departure from established procedure," the statement read in part.

Here are the reactions:

It is simply scandalous and utter shame that nation media has suspended a senior editor for writing a smashing editorial @dailynation

@dailynation which part of the editorial @DenisGalava was inaccurate? Doesn't suspending the editor reveal your lack of independence?
