Kenyans Reactions to 'Government being Broke'

Kenyans on Twitter came out with guns blazing on Monday morning to ridicule the Government over the alleged cash crunch facing the country.

Using the hashtag #WhyGokIsBroke, the vibrant social media fraternity better known as KOT, expressed discord over the running of Government. Those contributing to the discussion highlighted several areas they thought the government had failed to address thus causing the financial crisis.

Top on the list was rampant corruption which has been blamed for loss of Millions in Government departments. Many Kenyans reiterated that inflation of tenders and mismanagement had caused massive embezzlement of public resources by individuals.

They also took issue with the ongoing political war of words that has supposedly caused projects to stall as leaders engage in public rallies rather than implementing projects.

Devolution was also blamed for the rising recurrent expenditure due to increased workforce in the counties which had necessitated a rise in the country's wage bill. In the 2015/2016 budget, counties were allocated more than Sh229 Billion for development and salaries.

National Treasury CS Henry Rotich has been on the spotlight to clarify claims that the Government was broke. This is after revelations that the country had a whooping Sh2.84 Trillion debt.

Here are some of the reactions:
