Kidero Shuts Down Company with Bad Smell

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has ordered the closure of a firm in Industrial Area due to the foul smell it was emitting.

Prosoya Ltd, a pet food processing factory, has been a health hazard to residents and a neighboring school owing to the bad smell.

Kidero said that he had taken the stern measure after the factory management failed to heed caution from the county public health team.

“I have ordered the factory closed on public health grounds until the management of Prosoya Ltd resolve the issue of dangerous emission,” he stated.

The governor also ordered that the material causing the foul smell be removed from the area, to prevent it (Prosoya Ltd) from posing further threat to the environment.

The Daily Nation reports that National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) failed to take action on complaints from residents.

Governor Kidero said he would continue enforcing county by-laws by closing down premises and organisations that pose a danger to the lives of residents.
