KTN's Joy Doreen Biira Arrested in Uganda

KTN journalist Joy Doreen Biira was on Sunday reportedly arrested in Uganda when a military fight broke out in Kasese town.

Ms Biira, who had just visited the country, was allegedly nabbed after she circulated photos and videos of the massacre on social media.

The business anchor was in the country attending her traditional wedding ceremony when she was apprehended alongside her fiance, Newton Kungu.

According to Uganda's Daily Monitor, the police arrested Ms Biira and her fiancé after raiding her uncle’s home which is located in the troubled region.

Before she was taken into custody, Biira had condemned the happening tweeting: "Continued gun shots in Kasese town Just metres away from @Omusinga's neighbourhood."

Biira's arrest has caused an uproar in the country with journalists and Kenyans at large demanding for her immediate release.

The anchor's mother told journalists that her daughter's whereabouts were still unknown.

Chaos erupted in Uganda when royal guards protecting King Charles Wesley Mumbere of the Rwenzururu kingdom attacked patrolling security forces. The unrest has left over 55 people dead.

Speaking to Agence France-Presse (AFP) police spokesman Felix Kaweesi said: "We took time to talk to the king to get those people out but the king was non-compliant. The only option was to storm the palace and get those people out and get him out for his own security and safety."

Here is the video that allegedly led to her arrest:
