Labour Party of Kenya to Announce The Presidential Candidate to Support in 2017 Election

Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) leader Ababu Namwamba has announced that the party has settled on the presidential candidate to support in the August 8 General Election.

Addressing residents of his Budalangi constituency, Namwamba stated that he would make an announcement on who the party would throw its weight behind on Saturday.

He noted that LPK had negotiated and identified the most suitable candidate who had the best chance of emerging victorious in the upcoming polls.

The former ODM Secretary General has remained silent on who he would support between President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party and the National Super Alliance (NASA) led by Raila Odinga.

However, Namwamba divulged that his team already knew who would win the presidency adding that they settled on a candidate who they felt was development-minded.

“We already know who will emerge victorious in the August 8 polls. We also know who we can sit down with us on a round table and will respond to our request to bring development to the people of Budalangi,” he stated.

He further indicated that the agreement was reached at after LPK's two-day retreat earlier in the month.

The Budalangi lawmaker urged the party followers to back whoever they had decided to support ahead of the General Election.

“We have now chartered our way forward. We can sit down and have a discussion with anybody without sanctions. I urge you that since we now own a house, whoever we will announce, give him ultimate support,” he appealed.

In 2016, Namwamba resigned from his post in ODM accusing a section of leaders within the party of betraying and frustrating him in executing his duties.
