At least 18 Children Paralyzed After Malaria Drugs Injection

Residents in Teso North, Busia County stormed the governor’s office with their children on Wednesday, accusing a local dispensary of paralyzing their children.

Over 15 children are said to have been injected with malaria medicine resulting in their legs becoming weak, numb or paralyzed.

According to The Nation, the parents wanted staff at Akichelesit Dispensary in Kakapel Location questioned over the matter.

They told NTV that they suspect their children were misdiagnosed.

Others claimed that the children could have been given expired drugs.

County Health Executive Maurice Simiyu said the head nurse at the dispensary had already been summoned to give details of what happened.

He added that tests will be done on the 18 children who displayed symptoms of paralysis to see if the effects of the drugs can be reversed.
