Machakos County government and its governor Alfred Mutua have been ranked as the best performing in a new survey measuring public perception on the success of devolution.
The survey by Infotrak Limited focused on respondents' assessments of devolved functions such as provision of health services, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
Second on the list was Bungoma county followed by Vihiga. Included in the 15 best ranked counties were Bomet, Kwale, Elgeyo Marakwet, Taita-Taveta, Kisii, West Pokot, Kakamega, Kericho, Murang’a, Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Mombasa.
Despite ranking as one of the best counties with improved transport sector, Nairobi county and its governor Evans Kidero were ranked poorly, not making it to the top 15.
The survey comes a few days after the second devolution conference where the milestones and challenges of devolution were highlighted.
