Man Dies, Another Injured After they Were Caught Stealing

A man succumbed to injuries sustained after he was beaten by residents in Bochere village, Kisii County after he allegedly stole chicken.

The man identified as Duke Bwana died on Tuesday in Tabaka Mission Hospital hours after he was rushed there by police officers.

Bwana is said to have sneaked into a neighbor's compound and took two hens.

Unfortunately for him, he was seen by other neighbors who raised alarm, attracting a crowd that decided to hand out justice by themselves.

Police arrived at the scene, to find a beaten Bwana barely conscious. He was taken to a nearby clinic, then referred to the mission hospital where he passed on.

Tabaka Police station spokesperson Teresa Ndichu confirmed the incident to the media saying that those involved will face criminal charges.

In Nakuru County, a man is nursing burn injuries at a hospital in Lanet after residents attempted to lynch him following allegations of theft.

The man is said to have stolen two motorcycles at the trading center with the help of two friends.

The man was found with the bikes at his home, but refused to give information about his accomplices.

This angered the rowdy crowd which was already agitated following several theft incidences in the area.

They were in the process of lynching him when police officers came to the man's rescue taking him to Nakuru hospital where he is currently recuperating.

Mob justice is illegal in the country. It has become common in the past for people to take matters into their own hands instead of waiting for legal action to be taken against the perpetrators.

Officials have however warned that such incidences will not be tolerated with those involved facing the law.
