Man Dies During Police Recruitment

A middle-aged man on Monday afternoon lost his life during the ongoing police recruitment exercise in Matuga area, Kwale County.

The 23-year old reportedly collapsed and died after completing a mandatory run for those seeking to be recruited into the service.

Police launched immediate investigations into the incident in order to unearth the cause of his demise.

The recruitment began in different locations across the country as the National Police Service seeks to add 10,000 more personnel.

Potential recruits complained after they were turned away for failing to meet physical requirements such as height and dental composition.

Earlier in the day, a man was arraigned in a Nairobi Court for defrauding Sh18,000 from different people while pretending to be in a position to help them succeed in the police recruitment.

Joseph Kipkoech Keino was charged before Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo with extorting money from Lesley Cherop, with an assurance that he would help her cousin acquire a spot in the Administration Police.
