How much is Ksh5 really worth? Well, as shocked residents from Ndaragua would discover - the amount could cost a man's life.
The Wednesday afternoon incident started with the man allegedly stealing ‘mutura’ from a butchery at Kiandongoro trading center.
When the two butchery owners who were inside noticed the act, they ran after him and beat him senseless when they eventually caught up with the suspect.
Among the weapons they used to 'teach the man a lesson' was a machete which caused massive injury.
Seemingly unaware of the gravity of what they had done, the two men would leave the suspect on the ground bleeding heavily, only for passersby to notice later on that the man was neither breathing nor moving.
He had succumbed to his injuries.
An infuriated mob went to the butchery and attacked the two owners for killing the suspect, leaving them with critical injuries.
According to a report by The Standard, the police arrived at the scene later and took the two injured men to Nyahururu District Hospital where they were immediately admitted.
Speaking to the press, Nyandarua OCPD Benjamin Onsongo confirmed the incident and said that so far, no one has been arrested for the subsequent attack on the two men, as the case is being treated an act of a mob.
Cases of members of he public taking the law into their own hands have been on the increase, albeit being unlawful and having dire consequences.
