A man and his wife died on Thursday following a fierce clash over dowry payment, that ensued in Kipkaren village, Uasin Gishu County.
Residents in the area said that the man had asked his wife to allow for the sale of their piece of land, so that he could raise money to settle dowry demanded by the wife's family – five cows.
The woman however, was against the idea and went ahead to leave for her parents' home where she stayed for a week.
Upon returning to her matrimonial home on Thursday, the man descended on his wife stabbing her to death.
Shortly after the incident, an angry mob nabbed the man giving him a thorough beating before they also stabbed him to death.
Confirming the incident, Lugari OCPD Bernard Macharia said the couple had separated for a week because of misunderstandings, quarrels and fighting over dowry payment.
The blood-soaked bodies of the couple were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
