MCAs Miss Salaries After Bank Closed

Members of the Kisii County Assembly are a frustrated lot after they failed to receive their salaries on Thursday.

Their pay had been wired to their account's at a local Chase Bank branch after the Assembly asked the institution to facilitate car and morgage loans for the MCA's; which the bank agreed but on condition that they send salaries through it.

“The reps have been hit hard because we had just wired their pay to the bank when the announcement that it had been placed under receivership was made,” assembly Clerk James Nyaoga was quoted by the Nation on Thursday.

One of the Ward Representatives was reported lamenting that he could not access his salary, yet he had used all his money to help his constituents, attend funerals among other activities.

However, Mr Nyaoga assured that the assembly's operations were well on course since it had another account with the National Bank of Kenya.

Other counties affected by the closer of Chase bank are Trans Nzoia and Kilifi which had Sh11 Million and Sh50 Million respectively in deposits.

Chase Bank was last week put under receivership by the Central Bank of Kenya after it failed to meet its financial obligations.

The move affected many depositors who rushed to withdraw money after the closure announcement, to no avail.
