Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's Bodyguard Shot During Chaotic ODM rally in Migori

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's bodyguard was today shot and injured after chaos erupted during an ODM Party rally in Migori.

Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Nassir alleged that the bodyguard was shot by people connected to Migori County Governor Okoth Obado.

"This was an assassination attempt. They were after Joho. Our car was shot at three times," Nassir claimed.

Joho was in the county to officially launch an ODM office together with Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Earlier on, Governor Obado allegedly hired goons then stormed the Joho-led event in Migori town.

A fracas erupted, with some hooligans booing and throwing water bottles, stones and shoes at the podium.

This forced Obado's guards to open fire.

After the incident, Joho sent a statement to newsrooms claiming that his entourage was attacked by trained security officers dressed in civilian clothes.

“The entire operation had all markings of an assassination attempt which left one of our bodyguards shot and wounded in the leg and the vehicle I was riding in hit with bullets, at least two bullets.

"We believe that the events of today are part of a growing pattern of the politically motivated attacks and intolerance that we have witnessed in the recent days even though until today those attacks have mostly been verbal,” Joho stated.

Joho emphasised that the Migori chaos were an attempt on his life and that of other ODM leaders.
