More Kenyans Want Raila Odinga to Retire from Politics

The number of Kenyans opposed to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga vying for the Presidency has increased.

A most recent poll by IPSOS Synovate indicated that 37 per cent of the sample population wanted Mr Odinga to completely retire from politics, which is a 3 per cent increase from a previous survey. In April, 34 per cent of Kenyans surveyed wanted Raila out of politics.

The August survey, however, indicated that 31 per cent of the group are in support of Odinga running for the presidential seat.

The poll further indicated 27 per cent of the respondents, did not want Raila to run for presidency, but supported him remaining active in politics or endorsing a preferred candidate.

On the contrary, 75 per cent approved President Uhuru Kenyatta's performance over the last three months.

President Kenyatta's approval was mainly based on his performance in infrasructure development, corruption and general economic performance.

According to the survey, majority of CORD supporters are low-income earners and can hardly afford a meal.

The findings from the survey showed that 48 per cent of CORD supporters, compared to 39 per cent of Jubilee supporters, earned less than Sh10,000.

IPSOS Synovate lead reseacher Tom Wolf, stated that 42 per cent of the 2,002 people interviewed earned less than Sh10, 000 a month, 38 per cent said they were employed while 20 per cent were unemployed.
