Moses Kuria Arrested

Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria has been apprehended and taken to Kilimani Police Station.

The MP was locked up 24 hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Keriako Tobiko, ordered for his immediate prosecution over incitement remarks that he made in July, this year.

Mr Tobiko acted after receiving files from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) which recommended Mr Kuria's immediate indictment.

In a statement to newsrooms on Monday, the DPP stated that there was sufficient evidence to charge the MP.

Mr Kuria was caught on camera ordering his constituents to “cut those opposing National Youth Service programs with pangas.” The MP who was speaking in his native language, however, claimed that he was misquoted and that the video had been edited to victimise him.

This comes barely two weeks after the court threw out Kuria's application, seeking to compel Safaricom to release call records to be used in his ongoing incitement case.
