Mother and Son Die in Borehole

The body of a 68-year-old woman and her 40-year-old son were found floating in a borehole in Gacatha Village Kirinyaga County, after going missing for four days.

The two, Beth Muthike and Eric Muthike, had gone to the village for one of their close kin's fundraiser, before disappearing mysteriously after leaving the village bar.

“They came on Friday for the fundraiser of their other son who is in hospital and needs urgent help but were not even able to attend it,” said one of the locals.

A search for the two was launched on the day of their disappearance, only for a resident to discover something floating in a small pit along a deserted path.

“They did not have swollen stomachs so it is unlikely that the cause of their death was due to gobbling water. We only found the woman with her tongue sticking out," said another concerned resident.

The bodies were retrieved and taken to the Embu General Hospital Mortuary as police probed the matter.
