MPs Approve Eliud Wabukala's Nomination as EACC Chairman

Members of Parliament (MPs) have sent out an urgent message to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairperson nominee Eliud Wabukala.

Speaking at the National Assembly during a discussion on his appointment, the MPs directed the retired Archbishop to move with speed and tackle the corruption dragon that has affected the country.

The lawmakers, who unanimously approved the former Anglican Church of Kenya for the job, expressed hope that he was the best-placed person to fight corruption.

One after the other, the legislators praised Wabukala for his integrity maintaining that he had an accomplished career as a church leader and did not have blemish during his career.

They noted that the Commission had been subjected to many highly-qualified individuals who failed to slay the graft monster, hence it was time to try out a church leader.

The MPs urged the executive and the EACC Secretariat to support the clergyman to ensure that his efforts to lead the body are not frustrated.

Wabukala was vetted by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), which approved his suitability to head EACC, after which his nomination was tabled in the Assembly.

At the same time, the legislators discussed nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) where they expressed hope that the new commissioners would effectively lead the country in the August 8 General Election.
