MP's Son on Payroll as 'Ghost Worker'

Baringo Central Member of Parliament (MP) Sammy Mwaita, is in the eye of a storm after reports emerged indicating that  his son had been receiving a decent monthly salary from the Constituency Development Funds Office.

In documents seen by the Standard, Kenneth Komen was listed as the highest paid officer despite not being an employee of the county offices based in Parliament, Nairobi. He earned a quarterly net salary of Sh98,004, higher than his boss Kevin Kiptala the manager.

Mr Komen was listed in the capacity of a communication manager but upon being contacted, he said he was not an employee of the office but could not justify why he was receiving a salary.

This comes while the constituency chief auditor, Alice Wachira, revealed that there were discrepancies in the county's expenditure which were not supported by any documentation.

The Baringo CDF manager Michael Kones, however, denied the claims and said the purported discrepancies were minor and had already been clarified.

“That was a small issue and we cleared the matter. There is no problem now, everything is clean,” he said.

Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to contact Mr Mwaita for a clarification on the matter were fruitless, as calls to the lawmaker went unanswered.
