Police have no rape evidence in the case of Mugo wa Wairimu, the fake gynaecologist allegedly caught on camera sedating and raping a female patient.
Reports suggest that due to lack of forensic evidence and statements from witnesses, Mugo can only be charged with indecent assault and operating an unlicensed medical laboratory.
Apparently, even the witnesses who spoke to Citizen TV that first exposed the 'doctor' did not record any statements with the police.
The team investigating Mugo's case told the Star that it had completed investigations and confirmed that they had no sufficient proof that the suspect committed the rape offence.
After the arrest of Mugo wa Wairimu in Limuru, the head of Serious Crimes Unit John Kariuki appealed to the public to record any evidence against the fake doctor.
Reports indicate that only one woman presented herself to the Criminal Investigative Department although lack of forensic evidence like semen or DNA hampered attempts by Police to link Mugo to rape.
Wairimu who is not a registered doctor by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board is set to face the two charges on Friday.
Mugo came to the limelight after an expose by Citizen TV that supposedly showed him raping a patient at his facility in Githurai 44.
The phoney doctor had been on the run when the public called the police after tjhey spotted him at a Limuru hotel on September 10 taking breakfast.
