Murang'a County Assembly Almost Burnt Down

The Murang'a County Assembly was almost set on fire on October 20, 2015 , the Members of County Assembly have revealed.

Speaking on Wednesday, the MCAs claimed that on the fateful day, unknown arsonists attempted to burn down the Speaker's boardroom and the Assembly van.

The County lawmakers, who now claim they are living in fear, further stated that on the next day (October 21) they could not access the Assembly precincts since the main gate had been chained by unknown people.

Kamacharia Ward Representative Joseph Machiri, said that on September 7th, prior to the notice of the motion to impeach Finance Executive George Kamau, the House was under attack by suspected goons who tried to disrupt the day’s business, before police saved the situation.

The Ward Representatives further cried foul, over what they termed as continuous intimidation and threats to their security and personal properties.

Several MCAs stated that they had received messages threatening them.

They are now appealing for the intervention of the County Commissioner, Kula Hache, to enhance their security which they say is at risk.

This comes even as Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria's fate hangs on the balance. Wa Iria on Wednesday appeared before a Senate Committe looking into his impeachment motion.
