Mutua Government Now in Serious Debt

Machakos County Contractors and Suppliers Association have given the County Government an ultimatum of seven days to pay them about Sh2 Billion owed in debts.

While addressing a gathering on Saturday at the Machakos showground, the association said that they had been trying to seek Governor Alfred Mutua's audience concerning the matter.

The Association's Chairman Barclay Mutinda, complained that the delay in payment had ruined some of their members resulting in auctioning, listing in Credit Reference Bureau, illness and in some cases stress and even death.

Mutinda said that if the County Government failed to heed to their demands in the sevens days, members would meet to discuss the next cause of action.

He went further to say that some of the dues arose from roads, Machakos People's Park, Machakos Level 5 Hospital among others works that were contracted to some of their members.

This comes as a surprise since the County has been lauded for its development track record with officials from other counties making benchmark visits to Machakos to learn some tips from Governor Mutua.
