Nairobi Water Company Releases Dates of Water Rationing in the City

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has released the timetable indicating when various areas in Nairobi will be affected by the ongoing water rationing programme.

In a detailed statement, NCWSC also noted the specific timings of when residents in the different parts of the Capital will have water.

The water company partitioned the City into seven regions - Southern, Central, Eastern, Western, North Eastern, Northern and Transmission off-takes - to list the affected areas.

Nonetheless, areas including Kenyatta Hospital and environs, Mathare 1-4, Babadogo, Korogosho, Runda Mimosa among others will have 24/7 supply of water.

Earlier, NCWSC Managing Director Philip Gichuki explained that due to failed rains in December, Nairobians would experience a major water shortage starting from January 1 to April 2017.

Mr Gichuki said that as a result, Ndakaini Dam, which supplies most of Nairobi tap water, was left at only 48 per cent full.

He further divulged that water production in Nairobi would be reduced by 16 percent in a bid to maintain water supply in the Capital up to April.

"In view of the foregoing, it has become necessary for NCWSC to reduce water production by 16 percent effective 1st January 2017. This will enable the company to ration the available water in the reservoirs in order to sustain water supply to the City up to mid-April 2017 when the long rains are expected," the statement read in part.
