Nakumatt to Shut Down Haile Selassie Avenue Branch

Nakumatt Supermarket has confirmed that the retail giant will shut down one of its branches popular with Nairobi shoppers.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, the chain of Supermarkets affirmed that it will be closing its Haile Selassie Avenue branch upon completing discussions with the management.

This comes after Kenyatta University, which owns the building housing the outlet, requested the Supermarket to vacate the premises.

A Communications officer privy to the matter divulged that consultations regarding the matter were ongoing adding that the dates for the closure were yet to be confirmed.

"The University said that they want their premises. There was that discussion but it has not been concluded. We have not confirmed the dates.," stated the official

Kenyatta University intends to use the premises to expand its City Campus.

He, however, assured that the branch will relocate to a different location within the Central Business District (CBD) due to its impressive performance.

"At some point we will move. We will relocate within the CBD. We have clientele there, we have corporate customers there," asserted the officer.

Nakumatt controls a significant share of the Kenyan retail market with several branches across the Capital and has also made its presence in Rwanda.

This comes barely a week after Tuskys Supermarkets closed the popular Beba Beba branch.
