NASA Denies Funding Doctors' Strike

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has dismissed speculations doing rounds that it has been funding the ongoing doctors' strike that is on its 75th day today.

Addressing the media in Lavington, Nairobi, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi termed the claims as false adding that the opposition was not taking advantage of the stalemate to gain popularity.

Mudavadi stated that the Opposition was raising legitimate issues regarding the strike adding that whoever was spreading the false allegations was misleading the country.

“NASA is raising legitimate concerns that the government should address the issue. No one is dancing on anyone's grave,” he said.

At the same time, the ANC leader blamed the government for betraying workers' unions by disregarding their Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA).

The Opposition had been accused of trying to use the ongoing strike to gain political advantage over the government in preparation for the August 8 General Election.

CORD leaders, in particular, have shown solidarity with the doctors and on Wednesday made a successful application at the Court of Appeal to have seven officials of the medics' union freed from a one-month jail sentence.
