A foreigner whose nationality is yet to be established was on Thursday afternoon killed by President William Ruto’s speeding motorcade.
The incident occurred along Ngong Road near the Adams Acarde area when one of the speeding vehicles in Ruto’s convoy ran over a middle-aged pedestrian, killing him on the spot.
Reports suggest that the male victim was knocked down while attempting to cross the busy road while Ruto’s motorcade was travelling from Lang’ata and heading to Kibra for the commissioning of a project.
The tragedy quickly attracted the attention of other road users who rushed to the scene to save the man only to discover that the victim was already dead.
Videos and images shared on social media showed residents surrounding the scene to identify the man who was later covered using a cloth.
Residents who spoke to the press revealed that despite knocking down the Caucasian man, Ruto’s motorcade did not stop, raising questions about security protocols and pedestrian safety during the Head of State’s tour.
Moments later, a police vehicle arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area before taking away the body. According to reports, the body was ferried to Nairobi City mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
Additionally, the police have since launched investigations to establish the circumstances under which the victim was knocked down.
Meanwhile, the latest occurrence comes on the back of criticism by a section of Kenyans on President Ruto's development tour in Nairobi which has since been marred by controversial incidents.
Today's tragedy comes barely a day after reports emerged of incidents of muggings and vandalism, during Ruto's tour in Mathare, particularly targeting pedestrians and shop owners.
Similarly, on Tuesday afternoon, residents plying the Thika Superhighway were harassed and mugged after a section of rowdy youths who were attending Ruto's development tour.
However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) today morning stepped in and arrested five suspects linked to theft of properties along Thika Road.
According to the DCI, all those arrested have since been processed and arraigned with further investigations ongoing to arrest more suspected to be involved in the heinous act.
