NASA Team to Retreat for 3 Days Over the Issue of Flagbearer

It has now emerged that the 12-member team that crafted the coalition agreement for the National Super Alliance (NASA) will have to retreat for three days over the presidential candidate issue.

This is after the NASA principals Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula ruled out nomination as the criteria for picking the coalition's flagbearer.

According to a source privy to the matter, the four principals will settle for boardroom negotiation and consensus only.

"What we have been doing is working on an agreement. But from Sunday, our team will have three days to see how best to choose our candidate. But the principals have ruled out nominations. They will agree through consensus on whom their leader will be," the source told the Standard.

The team of 12 picked from all the parties in the alliance, has been told to come with the best method to settle on the coalition’s presidential candidate within the shortest time possible.

The team, which is led by Senator James Orengo, will also work on the details of a power-sharing formula among the four parties that make up NASA.

On Wednesday, the four principals signed an agreement that will see them cooperate and work together, before, during and after the August 8 Election.

The principals agreed that CORD will be dissolved upon the expiry of the current parliamentary term.
