New Regulations That Could See Human Resource Officials Lose Jobs

Human resource professionals will now be allowed to practice only if they have certificates from the Institute of Human Resources Management (IHRM).

They will also have to all undergo fresh vetting.

These are just some of the new regulations released by IHRM, set to affect all human resource officials in the country, both in the private and public sector.

New rules recently released by the regulatory body established for human resource professionals in Kenya in 2012, are likely to see many practicing professionals lose their jobs.

Before the rules were put in place, anyone could be a human resource professional, despite their academic background.

The new laws demand that for one to get a certificate to practice, one must “be a fully paid up fellow or member of the institute with a minimum bachelor’s degree or a Higher National Diploma in human resource management or its equivalent from a recognized professional examining body, who either performs human resource management duties and responsibilities in an organization or offers human resource consultancy services in a registered human resource firm.”

Speaking to journalists, IHRM Council Chairman, Mr Paul Kasimu, said the new regulations are a way of enforcing standards in the profession as well as improving the quality of services rendered to clients and the general public.
