Night Runner Caught in the Act

A 60-year-old night runner was on Thursday caught in the act by villagers in Ndagaiya, Embu County and escaped death by a whisker after residents threatened to stone him.

Mark Kiura, who was found throwing stones and soil on the roof of villagers' houses while naked at 1am, fell into a trap laid by distressed residents who had been complaining of frequent disturbances at night.

Sub-County AP Commander Charles Machinji revealed that the accused had told his wife that he was going to guard their miraa plantation from thieves overnight, before he was caught doing “strange acts”.

Mr Kiura confessed to the police that night running was his hobby, and was taken to Runyenjes police station after being saved from the hands of villagers who had began beating him.

The accused will be charged with tresspass and causing a breach of peace.
