NTSA Warns of Thugs Stealing Number Plates on Kenyan Roads

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Wednesday cautioned Kenyans about a dangerous gang that has been using a new tact to hijack drivers.

NTSA was addressing an alert, that has gone viral on social media, indicating that the thugs were stealing number plates of parked cars then using them to conduct robberies.

Upon getting the plate, the criminals hide and wait for the driver to drive off after which they follow their target, overtake and wave the stolen plate at them. This, according to the warning, is a way to dupe the driver who will unsuspectingly stop wanting to get back the number plate.

In case the motorist falls into their trap, the armed gang will execute their plan and effortlessly steal from them.

"When you stop to get your number plate back, guns come out and they take the car. Maybe event take you and your car. It is a very well rehearsed and organised plan and everything happens very quickly. Other motorists may not be aware of what is happening as you stopped the car yourself," the online warning reads in part.

NTSA told Kenyans not to follow the thugs but rather report the matter to the nearest police station.
