Nyamweya Kicked Out of Kenya's Football Management

Kenya risks facing sanctions from World's football governing body FIFA after it 'installed' Gor Semelang'o as the new Football Kenya Federation President.

A letter from Sports Registrar Rose Wasike outlined that FKF presidential candidate Ssemelang'o was the new boss, Sammy Shollei the secretary and former Harambee Stars goal keeper Mohammed Abbas the treasurer.

The three were appointed as FKF interim officials leaving Sam Nyamweya, now former FKF President shocked by the turn of events.

“We have shockingly received a letter addressed to Rambo & Company Advocates by the Sports Registrar to the effect that they have registered interim officials of FKF under the Sports Act,” Nyamweya was quoted by goal.com.

According to FIFA, national football governing body should remain autonomous and intereference from government provides grounds for a ban football related matters.

The move by the Sports Registrar may be seen as government interference hence putting the country at immense risk of sanctions by both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.

If the sanctions are imposed, Kenyan clubs might be stopped from participating in CAF matches with restriction put on movement of players, participation of national team in international competitions, appointments of referees and a ban on match commissioners from taking part in international assignments.

According to Nyamweya, the decision to appoint interim officials was done without the knowledge of the sitting FKF NEC members and FKF General Meeting which is the supreme legislative organ of the federation hence consequences were inevitable.

On his part Gor Semelang'o,the new  FKF President said: "FKF has not followed the law. The decision has been taken because FKF has failed to follow the laid down rules, we will call for a meeting next week and chat the way forward".

Gor's faction stated they were legally in office under the Sports Act after Sam Nyamweya and his group failed to register the federation.

Nyamweya has in the past been accused of mismanaging Football in the country and was suspected to have had a hand in the national team's flight delay to Cape Verde last year in November.

He is also alleged to have participated in a fraudulent Sh83 Million deal, in which he reportedly double-delt two companies for the rights to broadcast Kenya Premier League matches.
