Nyamweya Now Haunted by Sh83 Million Fraud

Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya is under probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), after allegedly receiving of $833,000 (Sh83 Million) from an international media company through fraudulent means.

Mr Nyamweya reportedly double-dealt MP & Silva (Media Partners & Silva Ltd), from Italy and Supersport companies, for the rights to broadcast Kenya Premier League matches. The FKF President allegedly received the huge some of money from the Italian company yet the Federation had already sealed a deal with South Africa company, Supersport for the same rights.

It is said that Nyamweya deceived MP & Silva that their agreement had been endorsed by all the 15 Premier league club heads at a meeting in Kakamega on January 30, 2015.

The said 15 Club Chairmen, however, refuted the claims and accused Mr Nyamweya of falsely attaching their signatures taken from attendance documents for December 19, 2014 meeting held at Norfolk Hotel.

In a letter addressed to the CID, undersigned by KPL Chief Executive, Jack Oguda, the League Council stated that 14 clubs had no representation in the Kakamega meeting, hence did not pass the resolution endorsing the MP & Silva Global Licensing Agreement

“The KPL Governing Council wishes to categorically state that besides Muhoroni Youth FC chairman and Tusker FC secretary general, the other 14 KPL club officials did not attend the alleged meeting held at Kakamega Golf Hotel on Kakamega on 30th January 2015," the letter read in part as reported by the Star

Reports indicate that out of the Sh83 Million received by FKF, all premier league teams were entitled to get Sh1 Million every month throughout the league duration. This however, did not happen.

The revelations come two weeks after Mr Nyamweya was arrested over mismanagement of the Federation's funds, leading to delay in travel arrangements of the National Team to Cape Verde for the World Cup Qualifiers.
