Oburu Odinga Demands Prosecution of President Uhuru Kenyatta over Hate Speech

Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Oburu Odinga now wants the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to prosecute President Uhuru Kenyatta over hate speech.

Oburu accused the commission of applying the law selectively after it failed to implicate the president over his angry outburst in Turkana where he termed a politician shetani mshenzi (stupid devil).

The legislator also accused the NCIC Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo of being biased and selective since he only summoned and prosecuted opposition leaders whenever they made utterances perceived to be inciting.

Oburu noted that Mr Kaparo had no right to excuse the President because he was angry adding that other prosecuted leaders had as well made their remarks because of anger.

“When we speak and we are charged in court with hate speech, we also talk with a lot of annoyance that’s why we say what we say and then people are taken to court. But the words of Uhuru Kenyatta are taken very lightly by Kaparo,” he added.

The Legislator warned that any prosecution of Kenyans by the commission will be regarded as an abuse of office since they failed to prosecute the president.

Dr Oburu now wants the commission admonished for claims that they are serving interests of the Jubilee Coalition.

The nominated MP made these remarks at Boro Primary School, Alego Usonga Constituency where Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga was installed as a Luo elder.
