Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Oburu Odinga on Monday explained why his cousin Jakoyo Midiwo was defeated in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Gem nominations.
According to Oburu, Midiwo's loss was his own fault because the Gem MP wanted to be a kingmaker all over Nyanza was hopping around in a chopper trying to insult candidates.
The former Bondo legislator revealed that his cousin (Midiwo) concentrated more on campaigning against him in Bondo constituency than campaigning for himself in his own Gem constituency.
“Really, it is his own mistake, he went around campaigning against others, So, his own people saw that this man is not interested in us. He is just interested in other things other than his own constituency,” Oburu stated.
Dr Oburu further stated that the Gem contest was free and fair and Midiwo should stop complaining, accept defeat and move on.
“He lost fairly to Elisha Odhiambo. Now he wants to cry, he wants to blame whoever he wants to blame. But he has himself to blame," he stated.
Earlier on, the Deputy Minority leader in the National Assembly had accused his Cousin (Oburu) of collecting money from governors in Nyanza to interfere in the ODM primaries.
Oburu, however, denied the claims stating that he never set foot in Gem constituency until the primaries were over and never associated with any of Midiwo’s opponents, so there is no way he could have interfered with the primaries.
The duo have in the past few weeks been engaged in a heated war of words blaming each other after they were both trounced in the hotly contested nominations.
