Odinga Now Defends Uhuru in Eurobond Saga

Nominated Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta, absolving him of any blame in regard to the controversial Sh250 Billion EuroBond scandal.

Speaking in Bondo Constituency during the burial of an ODM official, Odinga expressed his trust in the President saying he knew him well, and that Uhuru would never be involved in corrupt deals.

Oburu, brother to CORD leader Raila Odinga, added that Uhuru should be free of any blame since he had worked with him at the Ministry of Finance, during the coalition government led by former President Mwai Kibaki.

“When I was in the Finance Ministry with Uhuru there was no corruption,” he said as quoted by the Star.

However, the former Minister urged Uhuru to take responsibility of mishaps within his government, starting with the Eurobond saga which he termed as 'a direct theft'.

“I have worked with the Treasury and I know how funds are used. I know the reluctance to answer questions about the money is because funds were stolen,” he added.

Despite being in the Opposition, Oburu has time and again expressed a soft spot for the President and his Deputy William Ruto.

In October, the nominated MP publicly announced that he was willing to testify in Ruto's International Criminal Court (ICC) case, claiming that the DP was innocent.

“Some of us were with William Ruto on a daily basis immediately after the elections until the deal was signed with former President Mwai Kibaki. William Ruto never went home. I personally believe that William Ruto is actually innocent,” he said at a press conference.
