Voting in the ongoing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations in Kisii county was interrupted on Thursday morning after eight ballots boxes reportedly went missing.
The boxes were being transported to Bogiakumu Ward when the vehicle they were being ferried in was attacked by unknown assailants riding on motorcycles.
Reports, however, indicate the ballot boxes were empty at the time of their disappearance.
This sparked chaos in the voting centres which delayed the process expected to start in the morning with voting kicking off close to midday. The exercise was further disrupted after leaders in some polling stations disagreed over the register to be used in the primaries.
Elsewhere in Kajiado, voting was also delayed in some centres after several constituents missed to find their names in the voter register.
In the meantime, the ODM National Elections Board (NEB) has rescheduled the exercise in Migori and Homa Bay counties from Friday to Monday, April 24.
“Due to reorganization occasioned by the repeats in several areas across the country where the exercise has been held and hitches reported most of which are being held today, the Board has decided to postpone tomorrow's planned primaries in Homabay and Migori Counties to Monday 24th April 2017 and Vihiga County pushed to Saturday 22nd April 2017,” read a statement from NEB Chairperson Judith Pareno.
The Party had postponed the primaries in several counties following hitches and chaotic scenes which have been witnessed since the exercise started on April 13.
