The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has distanced itself from the proposed National Super Alliance (NASA) as the alternative vehicle that will bring Opposition leaders together in their bid to defeat the Jubilee Party in the 2017 election.
ODM's National Treasuer Richard Bosire stated that the party was not interested in the NASA idea but was working on bringing all the Opposition leaders into the CORD coalition to make sure President Uhuru Kenyatta is not re-elected in 2017.
Bosire was responding to the initiative that has been proposed and advocated for by Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi for various oppositional leaders to join him in the formation of NASA.
“Mudavadi was with us at first and he jumped out. But if he is ready to come back so be it. He is welcome. CORD is a strong coalition that enjoys massive support,” Bosire stated.
Others who have been discussed as possible partners in the NASA idea include Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto with his Mashinani Party and KANU’s Gideon Moi.
However, the reluctance shown by ODM – the leading Opposition party in Kenya – has cast down on the feasibility of the political strategy.
Pundits have speculated that the CORD partners are careful not to join another coalition to avoid escalation of conflict in the process of selecting their presidential contender.
