ODM's Strong Message to Uhuru Over Raila Assassination Remarks

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to make his stand known regarding the reckless statements by some Jubilee leaders at Kasarani, where one called for the "assassination" of CORD leader Raila Odinga.

During a press conference on Monday, the lawmakers indicated that Kenyatta and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet had 24 hours to act, failure to which they would storm the IG's office.

The ODM lawmakers observed that the loud silence from Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria supposedly called for the killing of Odinga, was grievous to the country and could cause anarchy.

The MPs stated that Mr Kenyatta should prove that he truly upheld the constitution, noting that the law required him to protect every citizen.

On Sunday, Mr Kuria, Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu, among other Jubilee leaders were captured in a video making distasteful comments against the Opposition.

Addressing a gathering in vernacular, the Gatundu South MP stated that Odinga was a "threat to the nation" and should not be allowed to trouble the country forever.

In a separate event in Nakuru, Odinga's meeting turned chaotic after rowdy youth reportedly led by some Jubilee heads in the County attempted to cause disruption.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, who was addressing the youth chanting anti-Odinga slogans, said that they would drive out Luos in the area.

"Na sasa tunasema ni bahati yake sikuwa hapa...Tungeonana (We are saying that he is (Odinga) lucky I was not around)," Ngunjiri said.

"Walifanya demonstrations wakachoma nyumba ya mkikuyu na ya neighbours... kama ni namna hivyo hata wajaluo wahame hapa... wahame...wameharibu mali ya watu wetu," Ngunjiri stated.

Loosely translates as "They demonstrated, burnt houses belonging to a Kikuyu and neighbours.. if that is it, then the Luo community should leave this area. let them leave.. they have destroyed our property".

Following the controversial remarks, ODM leaders have called for the arrest of Kuria, Waititu and Ngunjiri.

Police have since launched investigations into the matters and are reviewing video and audio recordings making rounds on social media.
