Officer in Court for Robbing Motorists

The case of a traffic officer accused of robbing from innocent motorists is set to be mentioned today.

The suspect -Peter Mathiru- is being charged with three counts of stealing from motorists.

He was first arraigned in a Nakuru court on Tuesday for the crime, committed alongside accomplices wearing traffic police uniform.

Mathiru is said to have robbed motorist Titus Kiplagat of his vehicle at Salgaa on July 15 as well as stealing a mobile phone valued at Sh6,000, Sh1,600 cash, an ID and a gate pass for Eldoret airport from Abdi Fara.

The court heard that the suspect also robbed another victim – Abdishukri Alinur of a Samsung S3, ID, National Bank ATM card, employment card and Sh5,000 cash.

The rogue cop allegedly forced his victims to stop by threatening them using his gun before proceeding to steal from them.

He was arrested on 20th July after CID investigations led them to the suspect's home in Olkalau.

On Wednesday, senior principal magistrate Liz Gichea released the suspect on a cash bail of Sh 300,000 or the alternative of a Sh1 Million bond.
